Banquet Chairs – Steel vs Aluminum
Eddie Heap – Front of the House Specialist
When choosing banquet chairs for your operation there are many things to consider such as material style, finish, upholstery, storage space or lack thereof, availability not to mention features such as flex back, ganging devices, glide or foot type; the choices can overwhelming. Banquet stack chairs are typically offered with steel or light weight, high strength aluminum frames; each offering its own advantage.
Steel framed banquet chairs are slightly less expensive and marginally heavier than their aluminum counter parts but can be chrome or satin nickel plated for a more durable frame finish. Aluminum chairs tend to use larger tubing for the frames which makes them look more substantial and less like a stacking banquet chair; both carry a twelve year commercial structural frame warranty.
Most facilities do not have an abundance of storage space because it does not generate revenue therefore stackabiiity should be a major consideration. Banquet chairs should only be stacked as high as your shortest houseman can comfortably stack them. A chair that only stacks 6 or 8 high will require 20– 40% more storage space. Whether a chair stacks frame on frame or seat on seat, commonly referred to as a nesting chair, should be considered as well. Nesting chairs that are stacked seat on seat typically creep forward as they are stacked and therefore can also require 20-30% more storage space.
